Grower’s Shipping Policy

Please note that ALL Live Plant products are shipped Directly from the Grower and can only be shipped to the (48) Continental United States.

VERY IMPORTANT!

To be sure that your trees arrive in a strong and healthy condition, bare root stock live plants can only ship when it is dormant in the fall and spring seasons. Trees are sent according to your local climate and this year's weather.

Live Plants Are Shipped Twice Each Year!

Fall Shipping: The Grower needs to wait for a couple of hard frosts so the trees go dormant and can be shipped safely. Trees can be planted until the ground is frozen solid. Fall shipments are made between October 15 and December 10.

Spring Shipping: Trees can be planted during a broad range of weeks or months -- from when the frost first leaves the ground through late spring. Spring shipments are made between February 1 and May 31.

Please Note That Not All of the Plants are Subject to This Special Shipping Requirement and You May Receive Part of Your Order Earlier Than the Bare Root Stock.  BE SURE TO CHECK THE ORDERING DEADLINE ON THE CHART BELOW!

You are welcome to a status update anytime you wish: plantstatus@northerntradingco.com

Again Keep in mind that many of these plants and trees are shipped in a dormant condition. Soak overnight before planting. In general, these items can be planted anytime your ground is not frozen. An early snow or frost will not harm a nursery stock item that is already dormant. On the other hand, these items can also be planted during warm weather--simply be sure to water well. Potted perennials can be planted outside anytime after your last frost until your ground has frozen solid for the winter.

IF THE GROUND IS STILL FROZEN when your plants arrive, open the package and place them in a cool (preferably dark) location, such as an unheated garage or basement. Keep the rootstock moist, but not wet by misting them with a spray bottle. This will protect them from the elements, but will keep them cool enough to remain dormant until you get the chance to plant.

IF YOU THINK IT IS TOO HOT when your plants arrive, plant them anyway. Some people think if their order arrives late in the spring or into the summer when the temperatures are already hot that it is too late to plant. This is incorrect. When dealing with bare root, dormant plants they can be planted in the heat of the summer. It is important to simply provide enough water to the newly set material. Do not allow newly set plants and trees to dry out after planting. Likewise, spring-blooming bulbs can be planted as usual, even if it's hot outside.
